Evidence Based Dental Public Health
AAPHD Dental Public Health Curriculum
The three- to four-hour introduces the principles and practices of Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) with a focus on dental public health. Students will develop the skills to critically assess the literature, apply research findings to clinical and population-level decision-making, and engage with statistical and epidemiologic concepts central to dental evidence evaluation.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Define and describe the principles of evidence-based dentistry (EBD)
- Apply the five steps of the EBD process to clinical and public health scenarios
- Formulate clinical questions into searchable questions using a PICO format
- Develop efficient literature search strategies using PubMed and MeSH
- Understand the hierarchy of evidence and the different types of study designs
- Critically appraise research studies and study designs in dental literature
- Interpret basic statistical concepts used in dental research
- Demonstrate skills in developing and analyzing clinical scenarios using the EBD approach
