Initial Process for New Chapter Approval

  1. Individuals interested in starting new Professional or Student Chapters contact AAPHD National Office.

  2. AAPHD provides list of National members residing in the area where start-up Chapter is located. (Professional Chapters only). All members of Professional Chapters must also be members of AAPHD.

  3. Chapter recruits a minimum of six members (can include its officers), and holds a meeting to vote for officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer recommended.  Student Chapters must also identify a Faculty Advisor who is an AAPHD member and willing to serve in this capacity. Faculty Advisors must be a current member or must complete an online membership application.

  4. A Faculty Advisor Intention Form must be completed and returned along with Letter of Intent.  (Student Chapters only)

  5. Chapter submits names and contact information for officers along with a Letter of Intent.

  6. Letter of Intent is forwarded to AAPHD Executive Director within 10 working days of receipt. The Executive Director will place the item on the agenda for the next Board of Directors meeting and seek approval to proceed.

  7. National Office notifies designated Chapter contact of approval or about additional information needed. 

  8. Once approved, National Office requests Bylaws from Chapter contact. Sample Bylaws.

  9. Chapter applies for recognition as a Student Organization at College or University (if applicable).

  10. Chapter contact submits Bylaws to National Office.

  11. National Office forwards Bylaws with Letter of Intent and Faculty Intention Form (Faculty Intention Form for student chapters only) to Executive Director within 10 working days of receipt to place on the agenda for the next Board of Directors meeting for approval of a Charter.

  12.  National Office notifies designated Chapter contact of approval or for additional information necessary.  If approved, National Office forwards Chartering Documents for signature.
