Presently we are searching for Research Dental Hygienist to support Operational Research Services for the Naval Medical Research Unit in San Antonio, Texas located on Ft Sam Houston.

The Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) is a major research center conducting medical, dental, and directed energy biomedical research, which focuses on ways to enhance the health, safety, performance, and operational readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel and addresses their emergent medical and dental problems in routine and combat operations.

NAMRU-SA requires Public Health Dentistry services to support research studies that will optimize the design and completion of research efforts to evaluate dental and biomedical products, new dental and biomedical technologies to detect and prevent dental and infectious diseases and other clinical and nonclinical dental field tests and related biomedical research efforts to include literature surveys, development of research hypotheses, experimental designs, and the collection and statistical analysis of research data.

The Research Dental Hygienist will help develop new and conduct protocol-driven research in dental and the allied health sciences with an emphasis on microbiology, immunology, etiology, diagnosis, and prevention of medical and dental diseases and develops diagnostic tools to detect infectious diseases from saliva samples.

Develop new research, development, test and evaluation of systems and technologies to minimize the environmental impact and occupational hazards of Navy Dentistry. This includes mobile dental delivery systems for use by the Fleet Marine Force and dental treatment byproducts in deployed environments.

Conducts laboratory and clinical-user testing of medical and dental field equipment to identify deficiencies in currently stocked equipment and test
possible replacements equipment.

Coordinate design and installation of mercury abatement systems in all Navy dental clinics to reduce dentistry's environmental footprint and develop technologies to prevent and remove biofilm from dental unit waterlines.

Test and Evaluation of Commercially Available Diagnostic Kits for Rapid Typing, Cross Matching, and Pathogen Identification in Whole Blood.

Develop and conduct protocol-driven research on the development of new restorative dental materials as well as the epidemiology, infectious diseases, treatment, and prevention of medical/dental diseases and injuries that affect the health, performance, and readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel.

Provide administrative, technical and editorial support and manage all research and non-research correspondence, logistics, facilities and the central filin system for NAMRU-SA research efforts.

Faculty Position in Pediatric Dentistry

The University of California , San Francisco (UCSF), School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, Department of Orofacial Sciences. This position will include a joint appointment in the School of Nursing as part of an inter-professional education initiative. Requirements include a DDS or DMD degree and completion of an Advanced Specialty Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry. A Ph.D. degree is desirable. The ideal candidate should be a board eligible clinician scientist with an interest in teaching, research in clinical, translational, or basic science, related to dental caries or health policy. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position is open until filled.
